Divorce: The sad goodbye

I was stunned to hear another notable figure had divorced from his wife. Two days ago, another celeb had walked away.

In all the cases, the couple had children.

I don't know why I felt broken. I am aware the world is imperfect and there will be such sad incidences, but maybe what I find more appalling is the general decline in the regard for marriage. I guess I am someone who still thinks 'old-school', but in all the misunderstanding and quarrels that may parents had, they stuck - and that's what I have come to understand as what marriage is all about...sticking through good and bad.

Someone wrote an article that marriage may not be for us as human beings as it has failed over and over. 'Free love', random co-habitation and one-night stands are popular and exciting, I guess, and after a while when people run out of sexual positions and things to say, they just walk away.

Like the killing of another human being, this is something that soon becomes too easy...

In the middle is a broken child with a seed for relationships that cannot withstand pressure - and the cycle of hurt, pain and failed relationships go on and on.

The hurt man and women seek new relationships carrying their baggage of memories, guilt and compounding insecurities into their new relationships looking for a 'perfect' scenario and soon, they are on their third and fourth partners.

No one ever said marriage was easy, but in this wacky world, what good thing is sustained easily?

And for those who are about to jump into marriage, please think through. It can be a tough ride.

But looking beyond to the larger framework of society and its wilting values where lust, money, power and acquisition are everything and less regard is given to the soul and the cultivation of value, I wonder how much time humanity has before it implodes on itself like ancient Rome that self-destructed, not in times of war, but in times of great wealth.

God help humanity...
